Stress contributes to disease in our bodies. It can be a trigger for emotional eating, anxiety and other numbing techniques. If you suffer from an autoimmune condition, stress can trigger a flare-up of your symptoms. Managing your stress is vital for your well-being. I have been working with my own autoimmune conditions and well as with others which is why I want to share some simple tips to help manage your stress…

When you woke up this morning what was the first thing that you did? Did you check your phone? Watch TV? Journal? Meditate?

How you start your day sets the tone for your entire day.

Now looking forward into your day, how do you feel during your days? How is the pace of your day?  Have you been stressed or in flow? How about at the end of your day, what is the dominant experience you have when your day is done? Are you so tired and overstimulated that all you want to do is zone out or numb?

If your days have not been going the way you would like then it’s time to make a change. My suggestion is to look at the value of silence. 

Silence is not just about sound. Our senses are bombarded when from the time we wake up to the time we go to sleep. We are exposed to social media, TV, podcasts, other sounds and more. In order to feel flow in our days, it is vital that we are fully present in our bodies and that we feel connected.  Silence is a very effective tool that can bring us into our bodies. By using this simple tool, by allowing all our senses to take a break for stimulation, one can have a greater connection to ourselves and to Divine.

Silence can be achieved using various paths. One path is a short meditation, a brisk walk, or just closing your eyes and breathing for a minute throughout your day. What is a stimulation break for you? Do you need to go to your car at work and be in silence for a few minutes?  Another option is to set a timer on your phone for every hour, a reminder to close your eyes and get back into your body.  Whatever you choose, I am going to encourage you to something different.

When you are grounded/ in your body you will feel more calm, more focus and be able to make decisions that are aligned with what you really want. If you are stuck in your head you are more likely to engage in analysis/paralysis and have increased stress. If you are grounded and connected you will be able to pay attention to what your body needs to function and may even be able to allow more joy into your life.
