Have you seen the movie “Stepford Wives”? Ok, so if you haven’t heard of that movie I am dating myself… Well if you haven’t seen or remember it, the premise is there is a place called Stepford where all the wives are perfect. It turns out that the original wives were being turned into robots (or something like that). Either way their behavior was disturbingly perfect, what would the world be if we were all like Stepford Wives and walked around with everything working perfectly? Like a world of Stepford people, we would all look perfect, would all work efficiently and effectively all the time, there would be no fights or instability. Everything would be perfect! Wait, that’s not human, where is the fun in that? Ok so that may be a silly analogy, but I do think it is a good perspective to really look our desire to be perfect. For some of you this may not resonate, for those of you who strive for perfection, keep reading.
A few posts ago I discussed the Mask of Perfection, today I want to discuss that inner voice of perfection. I am talking about that voice that tells you that need to change your appearance, that you are not good enough at something to participate, the one that says you don’t know enough to discuss a particular topic, you get the idea. This is the same voice that tells you you are not enough somehow. Well I am here to tell you and give you permission to accept and love yourself, accept who you are today, the unique and wonderful human being that you are. Your past experiences have shaped your personality and by simply being the authentic you, your presence has impacted so many. You are enough! Don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying that your goal of self-improvement is useless, or striving to reach goals are a waste of time. What I am saying is accepting who you are and where you are today is the first step towards a more joyful life.
I would love to hear your comments and thoughts 🙂
